Though the BSA sponsors a number of conferences in the UK over the academic year, the annual conference is the flagship event of the Society itself. In recent years keynote speakers have included Jerry Levinson, Noël Carroll, Peter Lamarque, Peter Goldie, Lydia Goehr, Rob Hopkins, Jenifer Robinson, Mary Midgley[could someone please add in some more here]. There is also a tradition of inviting non-philosophers, including critics, artists and directors, with a substantive interest in, or practical experience of, art and aesthetics to speak at the conference. Speakers in this vein have included the poet and critic, William Empson and the art critic Tom Lubbock over the years [some others would be good – Empson died in ’84!]. On average we have 2-3 keynotes per year, the majority of whom are international speakers
